地域と世界をつなぐギャラリーオフィス

東京・銀座7丁目に新築された「銀座髙木ビル」の8階、約31坪のワンフロアに、ブランディングや企画デザインを手がけるクリエイティブカンパニー「スティーブ・アスタリスク」のオフィスと、宮城県丸森町の銘石・伊達冠石の魅力を発信する「大蔵山スタジオ」のギャラリーを計画した。
スティーブ・アスタリスクは、企業や地域のブランド価値を高めるクリエイティブを手がけ、大蔵山スタジオは、アートや建築、プロダクトを通して伊達冠石の新たな可能性を世界へ発信している。
きっかけは、私が以前設計した「丸森の家」の建て主であるスティーブ・アスタリスク代表の太田伸志氏と、大蔵山スタジオ代表の山田能資氏との対話だった。新たに借り受けるワンフロアを二社で共有し、それぞれの活動が互いに刺激し合える場所をつくりたいという相談を受けた。
世界中から人や情報、文化が集まる銀座だからこそ、異なる二つの企業が交わり、新たな価値が生まれる場をつくりたい。そして、この場所を拠点に、両社のルーツである丸森の人、素材、文化を世界へ発信すること。それが本計画のテーマとなった。


緩やかなゾーニングが生み出す回遊性

約30坪の長方形平面では、ギャラリーとしての展示性とオフィスとしての業務効率を両立させるため、それぞれの機能を適切に分けながらも、空間全体を緩やかにつなぐ回遊動線を計画した。
エレベーターの扉が開くと、伊達冠石のオブジェが来訪者を迎える。右手にはギャラリースペースが広がり、その奥に受付とオフィスを配置。さらに最奥部、銀座の街並みに面した最も開かれた場所には、二社が共有する打ち合わせ・商談スペースを設けている。
それぞれの領域を緩やかにつなぐことで、オフィスとギャラリーという異なる空間が自然に交わり、人や情報、アイデアが日常的に行き交う場となることを目指した。


土と光が描く、丸森の風景

空間の中央には、伊達冠石が風化して生まれた土「大蔵寂土」を用いた土壁を配した。
赤褐色の壁面は、空間を緩やかに仕切るだけでなく、丸森の風土を感じさせる象徴的な存在となっている。荒々しくも繊細な土の表情が、地域の息吹を静かに伝えながら、ギャラリー全体の背景をつくり出している。
この土壁に沿って展開する展示は、原石からプロダクト、そしてアートピースへと至る物語を描くよう構成した。
照明計画にも細やかに配慮し、可変性の高いスポットライトによって必要な場所へ的確に光を届けることで、一点一点異なる表情をもつ伊達冠石の作品が美しく浮かび上がる空間としている。


現代的なワークプレイスと自然素材の対話

オフィスエリアは、全席フリーアドレスによるリモートワーク中心の働き方に対応した、シンプルで機能的な空間としている。
4席のリモートワークスペースには、デスク間に吸音フェルト製のパーテーションを設け、音環境にも配慮した。隣接するメインワークスペースには、カウンターデスクと収納を効率よく配置している。
その一方で、窓際には全長約4mの伊達冠石のテーブルを据えた。
赤褐色の原皮を残しながら磨き上げられた天板には銀座の街並みが静かに映り込み、何百万年もの時間を刻んできた石と、絶えず変化し続ける都市の風景が、一つの空間の中で静かに響き合っている。


地域と世界をつなぐ建築

左官工事や壁面什器の製作など、可能な限り宮城県内の事業者と協働した本プロジェクトは、単なる地方企業の東京オフィスではない。
同ビルでは、上階の飲食店やサウナで使用される手洗い鉢や照明、器、さらには1階エントランスのオブジェに至るまで、大蔵山スタジオのプロダクトが採用されており、丸森で生まれたものづくりが建物全体へと広がっている。
「GINZA GALLERY OFFICE」は、異なる個性をもつ二つの企業が一つの空間を共有し、それぞれの創造性を高め合うための場である。
そして、多様な人や企業、価値観が交差する銀座という場所だからこそ、この建築もまた、人と人、地域と都市、伝統と現代、素材とデザインをゆるやかにつなぐ役割を担っている。
ここから生まれる新たな出会いや創造が、地域の魅力をさらに磨き上げ、世界へと広がっていくことを願っている。

この建築は、地域と世界をつなぐ建築となった。

A Gallery Office Connecting the Local and the Global

Located on the eighth floor of the newly completed Ginza Takagi Building in Tokyo's Ginza 7-chome district, this approximately 102 m² (1,100 sq ft) single-floor project brings together the office of *Steve Inc.**, a creative company specializing in branding and design strategy, and the gallery of Okurayama Studio, which showcases the beauty and potential of Date Kanmuri Stone, a distinctive natural stone from Marumori, Miyagi Prefecture.
Steve* creates branding and product strategies that enhance the value of companies and local communities, while Okurayama Studio collaborates with artists, architects, and designers to explore new possibilities for Date Kanmuri Stone through architecture, art, and product design.
The project originated through conversations with Nobuyuki Ota, president of Steve*, the client of my previous project House in Marumori, and Yoshisuke Yamada, president of Okurayama Studio. They approached me with the idea of sharing a newly leased floor and creating a place where the activities of both companies could inspire one another.
Ginza, where people, cultures, and ideas from around the world naturally converge, offered the ideal setting. The ambition was to create a place where two distinct organizations could intersect, generating new value while introducing the people, materials, and culture of Marumori—the shared roots of both companies—to a global audience.


Fluid Circulation Through Gentle Zoning

Within the simple rectangular floor plate, the challenge was to balance the display quality required for a gallery with the efficiency of a contemporary office. Rather than separating the two functions completely, the plan organizes them into distinct zones connected by a continuous circulation route that encourages movement throughout the space.
As the elevator doors open, visitors are welcomed by a sculptural installation of Date Kanmuri Stone. The gallery unfolds to the right, leading naturally toward the reception and office beyond. At the far end, facing the streets of Ginza, a shared meeting and presentation space serves both companies.
This gradual transition between different zones allows the gallery and office to coexist seamlessly, creating an environment where people, information, and ideas naturally intersect in everyday use.


The Landscape of Marumori Expressed Through Earth and Light

At the heart of the space stands an earthen wall finished with Okura Jakudo, a natural soil created through the weathering of Date Kanmuri Stone.
More than a simple partition, the deep reddish-brown wall becomes a symbolic presence that evokes the landscape and geology of Marumori. Its rugged yet delicate texture quietly conveys the character of the region while forming the visual backdrop for the gallery.
The exhibition unfolds along this earthen wall, telling the story of Date Kanmuri Stone—from raw geological material to refined products and contemporary artworks.
Lighting was carefully designed to complement this narrative. Adjustable spotlights precisely illuminate each display, revealing the unique textures, colors, and forms of every individual stone piece.


A Contemporary Workplace in Dialogue with Natural Materials

The office area is designed as a simple and highly functional workspace that supports a flexible, remote-oriented working style through a fully free-address layout.
Acoustic felt partitions separate four individual workstations, providing visual and acoustic privacy, while the main workspace combines continuous counter desks with integrated storage for efficient daily operation.
In contrast to this highly organized working environment stands a four-meter-long table carved from a single slab of Date Kanmuri Stone.
Its polished surface, framed by the stone's naturally weathered reddish-brown edge, quietly reflects the cityscape of Ginza. Within a single space, a stone shaped over millions of years enters into dialogue with the constantly evolving rhythm of the modern city.


Architecture Connecting the Local and the Global

From the earthen plaster walls to the custom display fixtures, this project sought to collaborate with craftspeople and manufacturers from Miyagi Prefecture wherever possible. It is therefore much more than a Tokyo branch office for regional companies.
Throughout the Ginza Takagi Building, works by Okurayama Studio—including wash basins, lighting, tableware, and even the sculptural installation in the entrance lobby—extend the presence of Marumori craftsmanship beyond this single floor and throughout the building.
GINZA GALLERY OFFICE is a place where two companies with distinct identities share a common environment, inspiring one another through everyday interaction.
Situated in Ginza—a district where diverse people, businesses, and cultures converge—the architecture itself serves as a gentle connector between people and people, region and city, tradition and contemporary life, natural materials and design.
It is our hope that the encounters and creative exchanges born here will continue to deepen the value of the region and carry it to audiences around the world.

This building has become an architecture that connects the local and the global.
